Peace Psychologist & Founding Executive Director of The International Center for Peace Psychology – Kashmir

As the first and only peace-psychologist from Kashmir & South-Asia, Ufra has been working at the intersection of psychology, arts, conflict transformation and peacebuilding for the past decade. She works at grassroots and management levels, in different parts of South-Asia (Kashmir, Myanmar, Afghanistan, pan-India), and USA.

Ufra’s work is aimed at impacting individuals, communities and systems, online and on-ground, to – cope up with the ramifications of living in conflict situation/zones, facilitate culturally relevant decolonized approaches of healing, counteract the enforced normal, create community safe spaces for expression, share relevant resources - all while advocating for justice, and building more empathy, understanding, dialogue, critical thinking, self-spiritual awareness; and space for positive peacebuilding in the process. Ufra has been advocating for contextualized MHPSS, YPS-WPS and wellbeing-oriented approaches towards peacebuilding; and is now influencing policy-level changes on these intersections with international-forums like IASC & UN75.She is also the founder of the International Center for Peace Psychology.

Ufra has presented her work, created impact and received recognition from international-forums including the World Economic Forum's Global-Shaper-Hub (Shape-South-Asia-Summit), UN Women, Nobel Peace Prize forums (USA), Clinton’s Global Initiative, Swedish-Institute, American Psychological Association Div-48, Ox-Peace (University of Oxford), MHPSS Global-Network, Women's Regional Network (India-Afghanistan-Pakistan), Women in Security-Conflict-Management & Peace, TEDx talks, United World College International, Global Coalition on YPS, Rotary Foundation and International Network for Peace-psychologists. She has also been recognized as one of the top 10 Kashmiri women achievers, which includes a recent award for her pioneering volunteer peace-psychology work in Kashmir.
